Session Spotlight | Wendy Bickis
Just about the time the temps go lower, the requests for home sessions seems to go on the rise. Some people feel confined by the four walls of a home shoot and some people fly and thats why we had to share this beautiful session from British Columbia’s Wendy Bickis! Not only did she fly but she found the thing we all long to find again and again, her voice.
For the past year and a half I’ve been searching for my artistic voice, and I’ve questioned my ability to find it. Am I documentary, am I lifestyle? Where do I fit in? I’ve been taking many classes, and just recently I took a class on emotive family photography and something clicked. I fell in love with at home sessions, and how it can tell a story and still be emotive. And I realized I don’t have to fit into a category. I can just be me. Trust my voice as an artist and embrace the chaos of my artistic soul, and every family I have a session with.
This session felt hard and amazing at the same time. It was low light, the boys were CRAZY, but I jumped in and allowed myself to feel what I saw. A quirky, fun, loving family and in the end it just fell into place. So, for now I will keep on going and digging deeper to honor what I have discovered, my love for story and emotive family indoor photography.
This session was shot with a Nikon D750, 35mm Sigma lens and 24mm Sigma lens.

This set of photos shows so many moments of joy and connection, Wendy. Good to see you embracing an approach to photography where “aha!” and “ta dah” moments abound- to be ready to capture the fulfillment of an intention is an art. Thank you for sharing your lively post in this helpful forum xo Ruth
