The Fall Season’s Must Captures
To say that autumn is my ‘absolute’ favorite season to photograph is a complete understatement. I am one of those people who start marking off the summer days just one week into summer. Yes, I do love the summer vacation and the ability to “play as we please”, but fall foliage and weather is what gets my “creative juices” going.
Long before fall starts, I like to go into my archive of photos and look over the photos that I LOVED from the years before. This gets me into the mood for the upcoming fall photos. I like to map out when each photo was taken so I can get the chance to revisit those locations around the same time of the month to try new things, and even to recreate those photos with a new perspective.
Here are 3 of the Fall season’s MUST CAPTURE:
1. Fall Foliage
This is a pretty basic. What’s more beautiful than the trees turning into their golden tones during fall? There’s many ways to capture this special ‘spectacle’ by Mother Nature, so don’t stick to the basic portrait of kid in the middle of the foliage. Move around, capture different angles, look up, lay on the ground, walk into the river, capture things like: leaves in water, leaves in hands, leaves in hair, leaves in front of faces, leaves being thrown, etc. There are so many options.
2. Fall Sunsets & Reflections.
I love a good old portrait during golden hour, but I also love having the kids jump and play around the colorful trees. To me the temperature and colors during fall season are the best to capture this. I especially love the sunset by the water and I’m lucky that my kids do too. We like going to our local lake to watch the sunset and I try to get as many angles of them playing as I can. The reflections in the water during this time are amazing.
3. Halloween Costumes
Fall also means Halloween. I love capturing the kids with their chosen costumes for the year. We have not been too big on costumes for the past two years but even just a simple prop can be fun for portraits, like these super cheap cat ears from the gap.
I hope you get a chance to get out there and capture fall’s beauties. Don’t limit yourself and have fun!
