What to look for in a mentor!

Whether you are a hobbyist or a experienced professional, there comes a point when everyone needs a mentor!

So, when the hunt for a mentor begins, what are some things that you should look for?

Here are 3 things to look for in a mentor!

1. Knowledge and Generosity – A good mentor will not only have the know how, but be willing and open to sharing their knowledge with you. Look for a mentor that has experience in not only their area of expertise, but in mentoring as well. A good mentor will be encouraging and offer up any resources or ideas they can to help you succeed.

2. Honesty – Along with being willing to share, a good mentor won’t have any trouble being up front and honest. They should be able to help identify where your strengths and weaknesses lie, and share those with you confidently. However, their focus shouldn’t be on telling you what to do, but HOW to do it. A good mentor will help you find solutions to your problems, and guide you to where you want to go.

3. Experience – I know we touched base on experience in teaching in point number one, but let’s also not forget how important it is that they be experienced in their industry. The person you choose at a mentor should definitely be a role model of sorts in their field as well as successful in their own business. After all, if they aren’t thriving in their own, what makes you think they can help you thrive in yours?
