Tuesday Tips #282 – The Element of Shadow
We know that shadows can add contrast and drama and they can even show off pattern, but have you considered usisng shadows to direct your viewer’s focus? Consider the shadows cast off from a group shot at a family session: the shadows of the family lead the viewer’s eye directly to where you intended them to be — the family. Use shadows from other objects or subjects other than your main subject to shift attention exactly where you want. Just look at those palm leaves above; where are their leaves pointing? This may take some practice and a bit of happenstance but when you grab it, you’ll reap the patience pay off!
“The true art of memory is attention.”
– Samuel Johnson
