Tuesday Tips #294 – Making the Most of Artificial Lighting

If you are shooting a low light scene this week speckled in say hundreds of fancy holiday lights, timing is literally everything. Shoot too early and the lights wont pack a punch and if you shoot too late, you’ll lose any ambient light to showcase your subject or the accompanying architecture. The answer is to be 100% ready to shoot at dusk. The last few moments of soft daylight during this time will allow you to capture all the details with the heightened interest of all the lights!

“It was dusk and the light had an ultra-violet quality to it, a final burst of pigmentation as night and day rushed at each other in a clash of colour prisms before darkness finally, inevitably won out.”
