Tuesday Tips #322 – Cats, Dogs and Co.

Everyone has their muse when it comes to the craft of photography. For many of us, they started as our children and the others that live with us within our four walls. Our dear sweet animal friends are certainly no exception and they are often looked to as our muses just the same as our families, and often more so. But anyone who has spent a great deal of time photographing animals can tell you, a different set of skills entirely is needed for understanding them and their movements and how they will play to your camera.

For starters, unless your photographing your pet turtle, chances are that you are going to need a fast shutter speed to capture your scampering critter. We’ve found our sweet spot to be 1/1000 but if the light is low and you need to let more in, by all means turn it down but be sure to check over your LCD screen to ensure you were tack sharp where you need to be.

“I’ve never met an animal I didn’t like, and I can’t say the same thing about people.”
